I also wasn't happy with the high price of blades.  But
one year at the end of the season, one of the stores
(probably Wal-Mart) had the blades on clearance for a
buck apiece.  I bought all they had - 15 or so) and
change them as needed.

Bottom line is, next fall, check for the clearance sales...
