Yeah, but what I remember is that they almost got sued over them being
"unsafe".  Had a tendency to turn off all cylinders while rolling down the
road; or drop into 4 cylinder mode just after you'd pulled out to pass.  

And the reduction in fuel consumption was pretty trivial as I recall, only
about 10% or so.
