I?ve been using the stock 6 volt starter and stomp switch on my ?52 GMC (Chevy used the same part number starter in ?52) with a 12 volt battery (and alternator, lights, radio, wipers, etc) for 11+ years. Works great. Engine starts in just a turn or two after sitting in the garage for a week or two. Only caveat I would have is to not crank the engine for long periods because the 6 volt starter would get really hot. And, you can?t ?fix? this problem by putting a 6 volt Bendix on a 12 volt starter. The shaft size is difference. Should I put Gasket Maker on both sides of the new gasket, or just put it on like it is? Thanks!
