But modern oil standards do not include lead or ZDDP additives which were there to protect flat tappet engines. I always use Valvoline VR1 non synthetic racing oil. It contains sufficient levels of ZZDP and low levels or low sudsing detergents. If you have heavy carbon buildup the additives, combined with a good ole fashion Italian tune up (i.e. give it some spirited driving at decent revs), sounds be fine.
