I'm still fighting this same problem with the 235 engine in my '50 3600.    I have front  &  rear disc brakes and have installed a new power booster thinking that would solve my problem, but it did not.    When I apply the brakes to stop at any spreed, the idle speed drops and the engine dies.    Sitting still, this does not happen, I can step on the brakes and no change in idle speed. Disconnect the booster vacuum hose at the intake manifold and plug the vacuum leak you just created.  Drive the truck and hit the brakes.  It is going to take more leg power to stop the truck at about the same rate as it did with the booster connected, but give it an honest try.  Does the engine die?  If no, the booster is the problem.  If yes, the carb float may be set too high allowing gas from the float chamber to slosh into the intake.

I'd estimate the unladen truck weight at around 8000-9000 lbs
