My '55 chevy 1st series panel truck tends to overheat on parade routes.?The fan does not turn fast enough or cool enough to keep the engine from over doing it.?I've heard of installing an electric fan in engine compartment that you can switch on during the idling of a parade. I haven't tried it yet. Also depends on the ambient temperature and heat from the engine, cooling side fouling, the heat transfer around the radiator. Ideally the overflow tank should be large enough to handle the volume change of the coolant from cold to hot. Typically this is about a quart and tanks are usually 2-3 times that. Do a good flush, Run on distilled water for a bit so scaling is removed, drain, then fresh antifreeze mixture. This fluid is not circulated through the truck. It is only an escape holding tank for high pressure, and then only goes into the engine when the engine cools off.
