[Oletrucks] TRANSMISSION MOUNTING HOLES

My 57 Chevy (235 stovebolt) truck 3 speed transmission lower mounting holes are threaded; I recall (from many years ago) that my 55 Chevy (also 235 stovebolt) car had through holes.  I believe that this truck / car difference was typical.

Is this true?

And if so, why did Chevrolet make them differently?
