Jim,
I hadn't thought of trying this. Any issues with accuracy?

When I replaced the speedometer in my 1950 Chevy, I used the workings from a
1974 Chevy truck. Making it fit the faceplate and the speedometer housing was
almost like it was made for it. I suspect that most of General Motors
speedometers are very similar and will interchange without major modification.
Once you get into the 90's where lots of stuff was made in countries other than
USA, all bets are off. You should be able to find an instrument cluster from an
older truck at a junkyard fairly cheap.

the speedo on my 59 reads fast under 30, hangs at 30 from 30 to 45 and then
reads slow over 45.
is the speedo on my 59 worth rebuilding or should i just buy a new one?
lmc has a new speedo for the 55-59 trucks for $150.
has anyone bought a lmc speedo?
