[Oletrucks] dextron vs mercon

I developed a leak in my old 350 tranny. I know there is fluid for F@*#'s
and fluid for Chevy's, but I am wondering what is the difference? Would
actually tear anything up if a quart of Mercon got put into a Chevy tranny
or vice versa? I also saw some "multi vehicle" tranny fluid on the shelve
that is suppose to work in either transmission. Just curious how much it
does matter and whats in the "multi vehicle" that makes it work in either.
