The other topic was about whether members had an interest in getting together outside of a drive to hang out (hence the subject line), which we seem to want to do but never really plan. For example, last Saturday's drive was a great chat session, but not a drive. If we like standing around for 1-1.5 hours to chat, do we want to do a cars and coffee sort of thing, on a different day than a drive? That's what I was referring to. You know, sit down for coffee and breakfast, or lunch, particularly on a lousy weather day. Sounds like that may not be of interest to most, after all, who would instead prefer to stick to drives, and pick a destination where we can hang out. So, yes, please do feel free to lead a drive. You could pick a different starting point, but you'd need to notify members well ahead of time of the change; Bad Ass might be the best unless you are taking a roundabout route. I'd also suggest you tell members the route, or post a map, and give instructions on whether they should bring or buy a lunch, etc. Thanks, Jim, Greg On 1/21/2013 9:42 PM, James Legg wrote: > Would be delighted to lead a run to lake Berryessa if thats what > you're referrring to. Sounds like we are going to look at two sites just north of our current location, and try alternating regular meeting locations during the warm months with Sonoma Valley Bagel on Rohnert Park Expressway. We also had some excellent suggestions for drive destinations and special starting locations, from where we encourage other members to lead drives. No response from Dawson regarding continuing February's Valentine Day(ish) drive, but I think John will be leading next month's drive starting at SVB in RP. Also, Jim Legg may lead a drive to Berryessa, and Sheryl has come up with several great suggestions for destinations, and put tentative dates in May and June for a visit to Sturgeon's Mill. Members in the town of Sonoma, or in Marin County - please feel free to set up and lead a drive. My request of new drive leaders; don't pick dirt or really poor condition roads - Trish and I have 2 four-wheel vehicles for that purpose, and neither of our Elans nor our TR6 are happy being pounded to parts.;-) I've finalized the Google Earth .kmz file and attached it here (only subscribers to the Yahoo Group will get it - email me if you are still only on autox. We can always revisit this discussion, but this is a great start, and we actually have a visual compilation of the discussion to work with now - thank you. When I get time I'll go through all the discussions and compile a document of the great destination ideas and post that in the files section on the Yahoo Group, and post an image of the .kmz file for those without Google Earth. Let's see those significant others with big smiles on their faces! Even my wife is coming!!! Saturday, February 16th. This year I have chartered a jet and we are flying our cars to Hawaii to be with Dawson on Valentine's Day. It took all of my air miles but I got it done. And Dawson will be putting us all up. But really, here is the plan: Tired of meeting in Santa Rosa at Bad Ass? Well this year the ride starts in Sebastopol at my place, J & J Ranch. The reason for this is that I have been working on rebuilding my fence for the last several months and I am forcing you all to come see it and tell me what a good job I did. So we will meet here at 10:30 am for a 11 to 11:15 departure. That's on February 16th by the way. We will then once again drive through the Dry Creek Valley to the very Northern end and go hang out on the lovely deck of the Sbargia Family Winery. The view from there is unbeatable! They will have a table for us to sit at and you are encouraged to buy some of their wine since they have been so gracious to NOBBC over the years. Along the way we will stop at the Dry Creek General Store so those of you who don't want to pack a lunch can buy one. This takes about 1/2 an hour cause they are not very fast and it can get pretty busy in there. So we will probably arrive at Sbargia around 12:30 to 1, eat, drink and be merry. Then from there you are on your own to drive home. There are several different routes. If you are in a hurry it's about 15 minutes back to Highway 101.
