Old British sports cars are certainly dangerous compared to modern
cars with airbags. I do wonder if the swing axle suspension of the
Spitfire could have had something to do with the car becoming upside
down. Early VWs and Corvairs had the same design, and the rear
wheels were prone to tucking under given certain
conditions. Spitfires from 1970 on had this design defect addressed.
