Greg,
I have a Fiat 124 Spider that on occasion will experience the symptoms
you describe. Usually within a couple of minutes it is running on all
four
again. This usually happens in the cold, damp months of the year. The
plugs
are dark and gas fouled. You can smell it.
First of all have you changed/worked on anything in the near past?
Timing, carb. adj., etc. If so check what you did first.
Is yours an AC, Bristol, or Ford engine??
If you haven't changed anything it just might be letting it sit too
long.
The compression check might be a good idea.
Hope this helps.
