Rosa.  They cleaned and repaired the radiators on my A and TF.  Good work
and reasonable.

Subject: [NOBBC] GOOD NEWS AND BAD NEWS

Good News: 

 

If you haven't heard by now, our fellow club members who are crazy enough to
do it

have been accepted into the 24 Hours of LeMons race at Sears Point in March.

These old guys need all the support they can muster and a new driver member
would be really good.

I have volunteered to be on the pit crew and a couple more of you to do the
same would be

greatly appreciated. The race is March 24 -25 so come on out and support the
Old Crows.

 

Bad News:

 

The weather forecast for this coming weekend as of today is calling for 

a 70% chance of rain on both Saturday and Sunday, So there is a good chance

that this year's first Club Ride will be rained out. Bummer I know. 

Good time to change the oil? Clean up the interior? Go to the movies.

I will send along a weather update later this week. 

 

Gerry's description of the Auto Cross School in Arcata sounds really
wonderful.

Any of you out there want to caravan on up there with me in April?

Hi Club-Mates,

My engine (the second in six months!) has a bad bearing.

Anyone have a good 1500 engine, or another engine that will fit? I'm more
inclined to drop in another, than rebuild either of these two.

I have a complete 1200 Mk III parts car, and the previous donor 1500, if
someone wants to trade.

Also after the engine swap, will have two rebuildable 1500 engines if
anyone wants them.

Hello Members,

Taking care of club business today, so this is the second in a few 
emails you'll get from me. This is being posted to both our email forum 
and the Yahoo Group. If you're on both, you'll get two messages.

First, as John Kenner posted on the Yahoo Group a couple of days ago, 
we're probably going to be rained out of our first 2012 drive this 
Saturday. Shall we postpone until Sunday, 1/22, or the following 
Saturday, 1/28? Let's hear from you.

Second, just a quick membership status report. We currently have 149 
people signed up as NOBBC members, of whom 108 are signed up on our old 
autox.team.net email forum, and 66 of whom are signed up on the Yahoo 
Group. That leaves a substantial number of members who really don't know 
what's happening in our club, but I'm not sure what to do about that. 
Can't make people join the list or group if they just don't want to, I 
suppose.

Third, there still seems to be some confusion with some members about 
why we started the Yahoo Group, how it differs from the email forum, and 
what features it provides. That will be the subject of my last email, 
which will also be stored as a file on the Yahoo Group and automatically 
sent to all new subscribers to the group.

Finally, I'd like to solicit ideas from you members about what 
activities, routes, destinations, or other events you might like to see 
happen for 2012. For example, in years past we have; viewed car 
collections, visited a working machine shop, attended technical 
sessions, had BBQ parties, visited the Air Museum, and other fun stuff. 
Yes, some of you just want to drive and not do other stuff, but we have 
a diverse membership, so I am asking you members throw out your best 
ideas and we'll see how they float with everyone. Sound good?

Fellow NOBBC Members,

The NOBBC has two forms of group communication; the email forum (aka 
list) (nobbc at autox.team.net), which we established around 2006 (hosted 
by Mark Bradakis), and the new Yahoo Group, started in October, 2011. 
These two modes of communication both offer members the ability to reach 
other members through email, however there are significant differences. 
We started the Yahoo Group for two reasons; to minimize email chatter 
unrelated to club drives and business, which some members voiced 
displeasure with, and to enable those who wanted more interaction to be 
able to have more capabilities beyond the text-based only email forum. 
Members can be subscribed to one or both modes of communication, both of 
which are free.

For those members new to the forum or group, and not familiar with how 
either works, please read the following comparisons:

Email Forum (List):
1) Text-based email forum (not HTML).
2) No popups, banners, ads.
3) Email posted to forum reaches all members.
4) Can't attach photos or files, but can insert URLs into text.
5) Members must subscribe first 
(http://autox.team.net/mailman/listinfo/nobbc) before posting messages.
6) Usage: notifications of club events and drives, communications for 
those members not subscribed to the Yahoo Group.


1) Web-based group forum.
2) Ads are displayed by Yahoo and their advertisers (but no banners or

digest, or special notices only).

Q) Why did I have to say something about myself when first joining the 
Yahoo Group?
A) This is a moderated group, but since it's web-based, it is prone to

Q) Why do my photo uploads have to be approved first by the Moderator?
A) Yahoo has restrictions on certain content, as does the NOBBC, so this 
is a way to ensure our group is not shut down for hosting obscene or 
inappropriate material.

The Weather Channel 10 day forecast for Santa Rosa shows 

that Saturday is now our best bet with 30% chance of rain.

This seems to change hourly.

 

So as of this minute I'm planning for a Saturday ride.

Will update some more tomorrow. Who knows?

 

As of today my MINI has no compression in cylinder #4.

So there goes my foul weather British car

Well the 28th sounds like fun if no ride tomorrow. It might rain on  
the 28th
but we will have to see.

I woke up thinking maybe yes!  But I'm also deterred by cold & rain.  A
heater would be nice, too.  Of course a have a guest blanket.
