Google doesn't have any escrow system for buying stuff, does it? Dana Michelle Haltom to me show details 11:48 AM (2 hours ago) Hi there, Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, I had serious health problems with my husband and his health was my priority. Now he is feeling better and I hope we can strike a deal, if you are still interested. Where are you located as I advertised it on more than one location and website? I have a voucher with a local contractor I used in the past and they had pretty good rates, if you want me to check into delivery taxes with them let me know your zip code and I will ask for a quote. I would like to know when do you intend to travel, so I can check and arrange my schedule. You can pick it and trailer it, or I can ship it directly and there will be some economy on your end, let me know what you prefer, I will be happy with both ways of handling it. I presume you are not familiar with Google's Protection Program, I have briefly described the transaction steps below: First of all, the vehicle will be insured during transit so no damage can occur. Don't worry about that. Secondly, you will receive all appropriate documents along with the vehicle. Naturally, I will sign all the papers so you can easily transfer the vehicle into your name. Thirdly, since I presume you are not familiar with Google's Protection Program, I have briefly described the transaction steps below: 1. Buyer, seller reach an agreement (price and delivery/pick up conditions) 2. Buyer sends money to Google. 3. Google confirms to seller that the amount has been received. 4. Seller performs the required services (shipping/pick up, insurance). 5. Buyer accepts vehicle and informs Google about the acceptance. 6. Google releases the money to seller. So, this is not a blind transaction, you can see the vehicle before committing to buy and to eliminate any concerns you will have 5 days to inspect it. If you reject it Google Checkout will refund you the money, no questions asked. Dana. On Sat, Feb 26, 2011 at 1:09 PM, don wrote: OK, how does it work? This weekend and next are the annual Barrel Tasting which features all you can taste wine for a small fee (really, no limit!!!). While it's really fun to do, the unintended result is literally thousands of drunken touristas partying on our back roads...bumper to bumper on some of our skinniest worst roads. All in all, not a bad idea to wait an extra week til the chaos is over. So unless someone comes up with a better idea, we can meet on Saturday the 19th, noon at Bad Ass for our March ride. The weather will probably be better also. I've decided to up the luminescence of my MGA. Any condition is acceptable. A quick trivia question: The name "Booker T and the MGs" for the group that Booker Jones and Steve Cropper formed, came from Chips Moman, when he worked as Stax Record's main sound engineer and where the group first worked as the house band and later did their recordings in 1962 with "Green Onions" on the b side of their first 45. Moman named the band in 1962 after his "little red MG". The question is; he had two MGs -the first was a TD, but what was the second one that the band was named for? Naturally since it was in 1962 I'm hoping it was an A. Can't find the info anywhere. One more note: He also owned a new 1961 TR3 and named another group after that car, the "Triumphs" the band that featured a young Al Green. Thanks for any help with either question. Keep in mind, this aircraft was built in the 1940's.B It resembles our Stealth bombers of today.B Had Hitler got these into production sooner, the world wouldn't be what it is today.B B B B B image.jpg With its smooth and elegant lines, this could be a prototype for some future successor to the stealth bomber.B B B But this flying wing was actually designed byB the Nazis 30 years before the Americans successfully developed radar-invisible technology.B Now anB engineering team has reconstructed the Horten HoB 2-29 from blueprints, with startling results. B B B B image_1.jpg Blast from the past: The full-scaleB replica of the Ho 2-29 bomber was made withB materials available in the 40s. B B B B B B B image_2.jpg Futuristic:B The stealth plane design wasB years ahead of its time.B It was faster andB more efficient than any other plane of the period andB its stealth powers did work against radar.B Experts are now convinced that given a little bitB more time, the mass deployment of this aircraft could have changed the course of the war.B image_3.jpg B B The plane could have helped Adolf Hitler win the war.B First built and tested in the air in MarchB 1944, it was designed with a greater range and speedB than any plane previously built and was the first aircraft to use theB stealth technology now deployed by the U.S. in its B-2 bombers.B Thankfully Hitler's engineers only made three prototypes, tested by beingB dragged behind a glider, and were not able to build them on an industrial scale before the Allied forcesB invaded.B >From Panzer tanks through to the V-2 rocket, it has long been recognized that Germany 'sB technological expertise during the war was years ahead of the Allies.B But by 1943, Nazi high command feared that the war was beginning to turn against them, and were desperate to develop new weapons to help turn the tide.B Nazi bombers were suffering badlyB when faced with the speed and maneuverability of the Spitfire and other Allied fighters.B B Hitler was also desperate to develop a bomber with the range and capacity to reach the United States.B In 1943 Luftwaffe chief Hermann Goering demanded that designers come up with a bomber that would meet his requirements, one that could carry 1,000 kg over 1,000km flying at 1,000km/h.B B B B AB full scale replica of the Ho 229 bomber made with materials available in the 1940s at preflight.B B image_4.jpg A wing section of the stealth bomber. The jet intakes were years ahead of their time. Two pilot brothers in their thirties, Reimar and Walter Horten,B suggested a flying wing design they had been working onB for years. They were convinced that with its drag and lack of wind resistance such a plane would meet Goering's requirements.B Construction on a prototype was begun in Goettingen in Germany in 1944.B The centre pod was made from a welded steel tube, and was designed to be powered by a BMW 003 engine. The most important innovation was Reimar Horten's idea to coat it in a mix of charcoal dust and wood glue.B B B B B image_5.jpg B B Vengeful: Inventors Reimar and WalterB Horten were inspired to build the Ho 2-29 by the deaths of thousands of Luftwaffe pilots in the Battle of Britain.B B B The 142-foot wingspan bomber was submitted for approval in 1944, and it would have been able to fly from Berlin to NYC and back without refueling, thanks to the same blended wing design and six BMW 003A or eight Junker Jumo 004B turbojets.B B They thought the electromagnetic waves of radar would be absorbed, and in conjunction with the aircraft's sculpted surfaces the craft would be rendered almost invisible to radar detectors.B The plane was covered in radar absorbent paint with a high graphite content, which has a similar chemical make-up to charcoal.B This was the same method eventually used by the U.S.. in its first stealth aircraft in the early 1980s, the F-117A Nighthawk.B After the war the Americans captured the prototype Ho 2-29s along with the blueprints and used some of their technological advances to aid their own designs.B But experts always doubted claims that the Horten could actually function as a stealth aircraft.B Now using the blueprints and the only remaining prototype craft, Northrop-Grumman (the defense firm behind theB B B-2) built a full-size replica of a Horten Ho 2-29. B image_6.jpg B B B B Luckily for Britain, the Horten flying wing fighter-bomber never got much further than the blueprint stage above.B B B B image_7.jpgB B B B B Thanks to the use of wood and carbon, jet engines integrated into the fuselage, and its blended surfaces, the plane could have been in London eight minutes after the radar system detected it.B It took them 2,500 man-hours and $250,000 to construct, and although their replica cannot fly, it was radar-tested by placing it on a 50 ft articulating pole and exposing it to electromagnetic waves.B The team demonstrated that although the aircraft is not completely invisible to the type of radar used in the war, it would have been stealthy enough and fast enough to ensure that it could reach London before Spitfires could be scrambled to interceptB it.B If the Germans had had time to develop this aircraft, it could well have had an impact, says Peter Murton, aviation expert from the Imperial War Museum at Duxford, in Cambridgeshire.B In theory the flying wing was a very efficient aircraft design, which minimized drag.B B It is one of the reasons that it could reach very high speeds in dive and glide modes and had such an incredibly long range.B The research was filmed for a 2009 documentary on the National Geographic Channel. Click here CSRG "Contact Patch" Greetings! Rule 17: Never let competitors sense your fear. If you should feel anxious you should employ the art of misdirection and install an outrageous exhaust system to distract them. A Few Final Notes on the 44th Season Opener... The fields are filling and the schedule is set as CSRG's first event of the season inches closer. Looking through the list of entrants will show participants from across the country and from Canada. Since this April 1st-3rd weekend at Infineon Raceway has no sound restrictions it appeals also to those whose cars translate power to the ground and into the air. There is also a respectable and representative field of MGs. You may look at the weekend schedule and the tentative (but still growing) list of entrants by going to www.CSRGracing.org and clicking on the quick links on the home page. Registration: Registration is still open and entries can still be processed through CSRG.rrevs.net but don't wait much longer. Registrar Petey and Race Director Tom will do everything possible to accommodate entries but with everything that needs to be completed during the last week it is hard to make promises. After this Friday night (the 25th) registrations via rrevs must be input into the fields by hand and by Monday the programs and other paperwork are finalized for printing. Bottom line, registration is still open but get to it! To paraphrase Tom, they will try to accommodate people until the last minute but sometimes performing a miracle may not be possible. Practice: If you have already registered and have now decided you would like to add Friday's practice, I have good news. It will be possible to sign-up for the practice sessions at the track when you sign in at registration on April 1st. Event Packets: If you registered by Friday the 18th you can expect to receive your event packet in the mail. Participants who have registered after will pick up their packet at the track. There is a high probably that some packets will be distributed on Thursday afternoon or early evening. Tech Inspection: No promises but it is possible there may be a tech or two on hand Thursday afternoon to get a head start on their job. Officially tech doesn't begin until Friday morning but most of the techs race also and know how it feels to try to get through the registration process and be on track in time for practice. They know much of the pressure is gone when a racer has tech and registration completed early in the day. You can help us get through this efficiently. Please have all the paperwork completed, log book filled out, med card in hand and all your equipment ready for inspection before you hunt for a inspector. The better prepared you are for an inspection the more cars per hour can be inspected. Thanks in advance. Infineon Raceway 101... Where do you enter the track to pre-grid? What do you do when you see a red flag? How far should you be off the wall in turn 1 so you are lined up properly for the braking zone at turn 2? Should you sweep through turn 7 or treat it as a double apex? Here is a note from Driver Orientation Director Gary Anderson who will host an orientation session on Friday: Drivers racing at Infineon Raceway for the first time, both new CSRG members and visiting drivers, are requested to attend a one-hour orientation session on Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the old Drivers lounge in the building near the grille and Wine Country store. At this session we will cover safety practices and track procedures of CSRG and at Infineon that will be followed during the weekend. There will be an optional session for approximately one hour at 4:30 on Friday in the same location for new drivers and guests to get tips about Infineon track lines and cornering techniques from several MG drivers who are very familiar with the track. Hey, Tech Inspectors!!! Chief of Tech Pete Lewis has informed me that at least four additional tech inspectors are needed to assist in processing cars other than the MGs. Pete said Scott Brown has the MGs covered. (A tip-of-the-hat to Scott and his crew.) If you can help Tech on Friday, or were planning to Tech but didn't connect with Pete, please drop an email to vincraft1 at comcast.net and let him know. Note: There is a tech refresher course and question/answer session scheduled for 8 a.m. Friday in the Drivers Lounge. Pete said, "Won't take long as we have a lot of cars that need our services in order to get out for 1 p.m. practice." Remember we will be doing the annual safety gear inspection at this event. "Back in the day" most of CSRG's members would help make a race weekend run smoothly by volunteering to do a job. It is still a rewarding feeling to be helpful so pitch in and be a volunteer. Those who have never teched before will be paired with someone with experience so the learning curve will be shortened. Many hands make light work, raise yours. Registration for Rolling Thunder is open now... Thunderhill Raceway Park will be the site of CSRG's second event of the year. Rolling Thunder will take place on May 20th-22nd and will feature all of CSRG's traditional run groups plus a visit from the Historic Stock Car group. This should be a fun event for everyone involved and a treat to see the big stock cars battle through turns 5 and 6 or turn 15 as they emerge onto Thunderhill's famous long front straight. After a great day of racing we will all kick back on a warm spring evening and swap stories at the paddock party. We will meet at a site to be determined ( probably bad ass ) at 10AM and go for a drive ending at my house about 12:30. There we will have a Chicken BBQ and a good old time. I will provide the Chicken and cold non-alcoholic drinks. The side dishes and desert will be pot luck. Alcoholic beverages will be byob. So I need everyone who wants to attend to RSVP by April 16 so I can plan enough chicken. When you rsvp tell me what you intend to bring for the pot luck so I can make sure we don't have too much macaroni salad and no desert. In other words I will respond to your rsvp with an affirmative or another suggestion. Should be a great time. I have a lot more shaded sitting area than in previous years. I will send out another reminder a couple weeks prior to the event. Let's have a big turn out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This includes a mid day drive around the track for MGs. I've included the following notice from the MGOC for this event. Hope that many of you can make it. Andy MGVR/CSRG at Infineon Raceway April 1 - 3, 2011 So, do you want the electrifying opportunity to watch MGs race around the 2.7 mile Infineon racetrack in Sonoma? Want the chance to ride in a race-prepared car at race speeds the same day? How about the chance to drive your own MG around the Infineon road course in special MG parade laps during the racers' lunch break? If any or all of that sounds exciting to you, plan to join fellow MGOC members on Saturday, April 2, 2011 for a full day of action. As you have no doubt seen in previous announcements, the MG Vintage Racers (MGVR) is holding its 30th Anniversary Focus Event along with the Classic Sport Racing Group (CSRG) at Infineon the first weekend of April. With MG being the featured marque of the weekend, MGOC has a full day planned and we look forward to you all joining us. The events the MGOC are involved in take place on Saturday April 2, 2011. The MGOC is hosting a hospitality tent at the track, with special parking arrangements for those in MGs, and that all-important midday drive around the track. For those who have never had the chance to drive on a racetrack this is a terrific opportunity. To participate, meet no later than 8:30am at the Port Sonoma parking lot on the eastbound side of California Rt. 37, a short distance from U.S. Rt. 101. >From there we will depart at 9:00am with Andy & Marla Preston leading our procession on the short drive to the track. After arriving, we'll sign waivers against claims, have our cars inspected before going on the track later, and then sit down to enjoy the morning timed practices. Timed practices begin at 8:45am and end at 11:20am with a short break around 10:00am. Qualifying races for the various MGVR groups begin at 1:30pm and continue until the track closes at 5:15pm. The Charity Track Rides are scheduled from 11:00am to noon. You can be a passenger in one of the featured racers with your donation for the ride going to charity. The cost of those rides starts at $50.00 and if you ask anyone who has had the chance to do it before, it is thrilling!!! If you plan to take one of these Charity Rides you must wear long pants and a long sleeve shirt. Helmets are also required, and loaners are available at the track. Get in line early of you want to experience the thrill of racing - this is a very popular activity. >From approximately 12:20pm to 1:20pm you and your fellow MG owners and drivers will take parade laps around the track. These are meant to showcase the MG marque and it is a wonderful experience though racing and passing are strictly prohibited. MGVR/CSRG have teamed with the Rotary Club of Central Marin in an opportunity to raise funds for charitable activities. The cost, payable at the gate, is $25.00 per person with 60% of the revenue going to the Rotary Foundation of Central Marin, 20% to Infineon Raceway's Speedway Children's Charities, and the remaining 20% used to offset track and host organizations costs. This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy racing as it was years ago with MGs racing and winning notable international competitions, not to mention the track time in your own car and, for those you not faint of heart, race speeds on the course. We must give CSRG a count of attendees who will participate in the midday parade laps. For those inclined, please RSVP to Sam Gearhart at swg3 at comcast.net. We look forward to seeing you all there. Don't forget to stop by the MGOC Hospitality Tent and have a cup of coffee in the morning when you arrive. Another concern is the amount the rear axle has shifted to the left of the car which is very common. This is caused by the axle torque over time. You can see how much the axle has moved by measuring the distance between the top of the tire and inner wheel well. That will also give you a guide to how much wider a tire can be. I've seen 195s and maybe 205s but they are a very close fit. In my youth, I also wanted as much tire width as possible, but there are drawbacks, such as heavy steering at low speeds, "hunting" as the tire tracks road irregularities, accelerated wear on older suspension components, and slicing of tread or sidewalls on fender lips. Old wire wheels weren't made for wide, grippy tires like we have today, so they take a beating as well. Most tires of the same width the car came with originally will be stickier than they were in the day.
