Ouch, I just unloaded an engine and OD tranny for $400. Oh well. I gave a
blown block and std tranny to just get them out of my yard.

That definitely is below the normal price which is around $700 for a working
O/D tranny.  The seller must know something because if he's an eBay "best
seller" he knows what its worth.  From the photo it's hard to see the O/D
portion of the gearbox, but I'm doubting his word.

for a MGB Overdrive transmission with cross member and shorter driveshaft
for
$250

Looks like the later type (5 main )transmission so I can't use it, but I am
sure someone in the club can.
