No sooner than we talked about badgers, I found several badger holes around
the yard yesterday while mowing.

Hi Scott,
No, it was north of the Cheese factory on Bodega Ave. Badgers were 
common in the area - I used to get a few calls a year from ranchers 
about them. Dan Drummond (red MGB), who lives not far from where we (and 
he) sighted the roadkill, has seen a badger moving through his yard. 
They aren't extremely rare, but their numbers are declining, which is 
why they are classified as a California Special Concern species. Twenty 
years ago they were doing pretty well in the Sierras, and wolverines 
were more common, but they've all been getting more rare.
