NOBBC Car Corral I'd like to go to Cabo too, but did you happen to see Nightline last night? There have been over 1000 kidnappings and 65 deaths in that area in the last year. If you do go, take a .45 and don't stop for the police or the military, they are most likely banditos. And take John Kenner, that way if you do get stopped, you'll have something to offer them. NOBBC Car Corral Message-ID: Well, I missed the aniversary ride. I returned from a trip to Seattle, sick as a dog, and spent most of the weekend hacking and sleeping, I must have needed the rest. I actually got into my car to leave, got as far as my office, realized that I was too dizzy to drive, and gave it up, probably a wise decision. On another note, other than two votes for Cabo, I haven't seen any interest in a car corral at Infineon Raceway on the IRL weekend, two weeks from now, Aug 20-21-22. Following is an email from Mike D'Addario outlining our designated area and ticket prices. The package listed below is for Sunday, and is a great value, as it includes entry and seat, Q&A with Mario Andretti, and the Garage Pitt pass, which gets you into the garage area up close and personal, and access to Pit Road up to 30 minutes to race time. If we want to do it on Saturday, the cost would be $30 per person, and we would be on our own for acivities, although interested individuals could probably purchase garage passes. We could also have a nice picnic or BBQ in our corral area, as always, a nice way to meet and re-introduce ourselves to each other. So come on people, the last corral was pretty cool, let's do it again. We need to commit fairly soon if we want to do it at all. As far as the pricing, the prices I sent to you had the discounts built in. But when you look at a Legends ticket for istance the breakdown is as follows: Reserved Seat - 55.00 Garage Pit Pass - 75.00 Q & A With Mario - Priceless Corral Fee - N/C Regular Cost - 130.00 Your Cost - 99.00 A Bargain Sell, Sell, Sell Mike Ps; They must call me direct again to get this. -----Original Message----- From: Mike Gianandrea [mailto:mvg1 at verizon.net] Sent: Friday, July 30, 2010 6:07 PM To: Michael D'addario Subject: Re: It's time!!!! NOBBC Car Corral Hi Mike, Is the area in 3-4 paved, grass, or dirt? Remember that these are old british cars and these guys get them all cleaned up for this. Dirt in the cars was one of the big complaints at the vintage event, so they will all want to know. Also, as old british car owners, not all are into racing or IRL, so the ticket prices may discourage some. I want to get as many people as possible, hopefully more the 30 that showed up before. Any chance we can get them a discount on the tickets? Any other perks or freebies we can get?, say maybe borrowing Michael Andretti's 2 seater for laps (LOL)? I want to make as cool as possible for the club. Also, I doubt that we would want more than one day for the corral, probably Sunday, what do you think? So far we have a whopping 2 commitments, myself and Mel, and Mel may be driving a Toyota with lipstick british flags on the fenders. Time is running out to give notice to Mike D'Addario for the space, a concrete pad with a putting green AND shuttle service to the paddock area, and if there is a problem with that I will bring my Yukon for that purpose, so if anyone is interested, please let me know ASAP. To pick a day, there is less race activitiy on Saturday, so that would be a good day for socializing, BBQ, cold beer, paddock and garage access etc., $35. Sunday is race day with the Legends of IRL, assigned seats, pit and garage access etc. If we want to do Sunday, you need to contact Mike D'Addario to purchase tickets soon. He also has to print up our NOBBC corral tickets, $99.00. I hope to hear from more of you for this. What a shame that more have not been enthusiastic (including me!). My B&B business prevents me taking much time out through the summer week-ends. I hope to make it to the SCCA meet at Infineon in October, that is one that I try to always hit! Anyone else interested for that one, then we should give Mike a break and someone else should organize with Mike D'Addario who will be keen to see us at another event. If we do not not show again then we will be back in the "dirt" and we will have to fight to be ranked with those Porsche guys for a decent corral.....! Enjoy the rest of the summer, until I am able to make it to Bad Ass for another drive. Lots of fun and great paddock access. Exciting racing and great pit action. I highly recommend it. I worked recently at the NHRA drags and our Infineon support guy said the IRL race is one of the most poorly attended major races of the season. Well we just got back from our little Friday IRL event. We did have a good time but the IRL practice laps were pretty much a waste of time. Started out OK with most of the cars on the track, but by lap five we were down to 4 or 5 and by lap 10 the track was empty. I had talked to some of the mechanics and it seems practice is game the drivers and teams play with each other trying to physic each other. For the few minutes they were out there it was unbelievable. These cars are like rockets. 600 horses on an 1600 pound frame. They just scream. In the garage area it was all action with mechanics and managers running around prepping the cars. No drivers to be seen until just before the practice. Deborah snuck in and I got a picture of her with Danica Patrick. Deb is rather small but Danica is tiny, and really cute by the way. Mario was standing there watch the Danica show and I convinced Deb to jump the rope for anther picture. She did it and he was really nice. Of course a bunch more idiots tried to do the same thing and it became a cluster mess. He is a really cool. Not being a big race fan, I didn't know that all Indy cars use the same engine, a Honda, which I think really sucks. I mean what kind of car racing is that? I do like the idea that it is about the driver, at least the top five. One of the more interesting things was the tech inspection area. They have gauges and jigs for checking just about every aspect of the car. Really cool. Oh, and we parked at turn 3/4 and the view was terrible. That is if you are interested in watching the race. Only about 40% of the track is available because of the hills and grandstand. OH well. Spent most of the race watching time in the grandstand because it was close to the garage. I still think turns 9/10 are best for viewing. So all in all we had a great time. Hope all who are going this weekend have a great time. I think our next race trip will be to the Pinks All Out drag racing event. For those interested it's Sept 17/18. Haven't been to the drags for about 30 years. I wanted to get it back on the road by the end of this month, but other obligations have kept me from working on it. I will try to get back to it soon. The engine is ready to go back together, all of the machine work is done. I have the new suspension parts ready to go on as well. Most of the rewiring kit is installed. I upgraded the front hubs and breaks to GT-6 units, too. When I can get back to it I'll install the OD tranny as well. I bought a set of wheel adapters and my wife is buying me a set of wheels and tires for my birthday ;^) There's still a lot of work to do, but I'm confident that I can have it done in month, provided the new additions to my family aren't early. I'm sure your mechanic will appreciate the ease of access under the bonnet. I'd love to go on this ride, but my Spitfire is still non-op. I hope to see you all soon on a ride. Dawson PS John, in a fit of impulsive madness, which I am sure I will regret for years to come, I bought a Triumph Spitfire. I need to get it smogged, and the EGR valve is non-op. Do you have a spare I can borrow for a week or two? It's a 1979 model with a 1500 cc engine. The car runs OK and the body is straight, though it needs TLC.
