I eventually had to make do with ordering a manual for the Silver Shadow, the previous model. I have shop manuals for most of my other cars, like the Lotus Elites. It occurred to me that we could start a club library of shop manuals. We could maintain a list on the club's web site of who owns which manual. If we get more ambitious, we might find a member who's willing to scan them, so we can have PDFs of the pages, and even put links to these on the club's web site. That way, when a member has a problem, we have a ready reference. See you at the next ride! They just might have something at hand. The club idea is great. I have resources for MGB, Jaguar MkII, Jaguar XKE. Scanning, however, is a *BIG* copyright no-no. (PG&E commuter lot). This ride will be a little different in that we will honor the memory of co-founder Steve Lehmann with a ride to Fisk Mill Cove on the coast. If it wasn't for Steve, this club might not have come into being. Before he passed away recently, Steve asked that the club scatter a bit of his ashes along the coast. Dee sent me a cigarette pack full to use (I know, ironic, but that was Steve). We don't have to make a big deal out of it but if anyone would like to share their thoughts or tell a favorite Steve story we will do so. I know many of you didn't know Steve and might be offput by this but the ride itself is a good reason to come along. The scenic views along the coast and at the cove can't be beat. Services and amenities are limited along the coast and non-existent at Fisk Mill Cove, so make sure you gas up beforehand. It will be necessary to bring a lunch along also so visit your favorite deli before the meet to stock up. As much as I love MGs and TRs, I rely on a Miata for my everyday transport. I just bought a '01 BRG Miata which will replace my '91 BRG Miata. I thought this might be interesting to you guys in spite of it being a Miata: I've posted previously that I bought a very nice '01 SE to replace my '91 SE. In the process of selling my '91, I park it at the bottom of my driveway on weekends with for sale signs in the windows. My driveway is on the St. Helena Highway in the upper Napa Valley where a lot of tourists drive by on weekends. So, on Sunday as I'm parking it and putting the signs in the windows, a couple in an SUV pull over and get out of their vehicle and walk toward my Miata. I get out of my car, and I can't believe how beautiful the woman is. She looks a bit like Julia Roberts, but maybe better! Early to mid-40s, brunette, petite. Very nicely dressed in casual chic clothing- a 9.9 on the 10 scale. So I say to the couple, "Do you want to buy a Miata?" And she says, "Do you come with the car?" That was the highlight of my day! Interesting in that the woman who was the former owner of my '01 was very pretty. And the gal that bought my red '91 Miata seven years ago was also very attractive. Miatas are maligned for being hairdressers' cars, but they should be praised for being cars that beautiful women seem to like. The car had sat in a farmers field in Sacramento for 25 years before I rescued it so you can imagine the condition it was in. I've done a complete body off restoration and now the car looks fantastic and drives great. I'm working out the bugs at the moment and should have it fully road worthy within the next couple of weeks. Feel free to give me a call and come over and see it, and I can give you lots of advice. 707 795 3480. If your looking for a turn-key restoration shop, you could try "On the road again", which is a new shop in Morgan Hill owned by an MG enthusiast Bill Hiland. Bill's a member of many clubs including the MG Owner's Club, which is where I met him. Nice guy and really helpful. I have no idea what a full restoration would cost, but I've seen his work and it's first class. If you have the room and energy you can save some money and do some of the work yourself. You can view his website at: ontheroadagainclassics.com I'm sure that other club members can recommend other shops. It was warm inland and coolish at the coast. The fog stopped just at the surf line. We told some Steve stories, then scattered his ashes from the overlook (a place that meant a lot to him). I've posted some pictures at http://albums.phanfare.com/isolated/tTxIfzYV/8267198/3777114 should you care to see them. The consensus of members present on the ride was that we should start our twice a month ride schedule next month (May) so we shall do so. If anyone wants to suggest a destination or lead a ride this is the place to do so otherwise we'll do as usual and decide at the start. My car was down for this last ride due to eating a valve. I've been asked to post a few pictures of what the head looks like and will do so when I can. I had previously purchased a spare on eBay and it is now installed and running fine (except that I broke the little connector piece for the accelerator cable to carbs, part on order). I'm doing the shake down items at the moment but hope to take it. Although last year it was 105 degrees coming home and that would probably make the coupe overheat.
