Next Saturday is the second of the month and our normal winter schedule 
ride date. We will meet in the usual spot just west of 101 on River Rd. 
(PG&E substation) at noon weather permitting. If anyone has a ride 
suggestion or destination let us know otherwise the group present will 
decide. It does look like the weather will change by the weekend, rain 
is forecast. If it should be raining or threatening, we will reschedule 
for the following Saturday.

sounds like a great idea. I have already written back to Peter and Pat
to express our interest. I've also given them the info on joining this
list. I'm sure they would appreciate any comments or suggestions you may

below, please cc this list). It's a nice time of year for a show and as
far as I can remember, there are no competing events at the end of
October. For those of you who have never attended the Chico show, it is
a smaller, more relaxed version of the Dixon (now Woodland) show.

We are in the very early planning stages for our first car show that
will likely be held somewhere in the Novato to Petaluma area. I have
included the three of you in my initial email because of the close
proximity of the North Bay British Car Club and the North Coast British
Car Club, but we included the Redding British Car Club initially (even
though its a drive) because we do share members.



Depending on whether there is interest with your club members, may
dictate what marquees  we will include and where we may ultimately have
our show. We do not want to compete against the bigger car shows like
Woodland, Brisbane, etc.  but would like to be closer in size to  the
Chico Area British Car Clubs show, which I was fortunate to participate
in last year and enjoyed immensely.



Our chairman for organizing our show is Pat Kaye
<mailto:2Patz at comcast.net>, and if you have any questions or comments
you should direct them to him. Pat has a lot of experience in organizing
such events when he was involved in other types of cars.

on Friday increasing on Sat. & Sun. How does everyone feel about just 
postponing the ride to the following week? I'd like to hear in the next 
day or so to get notice out.

Well, the Nobbc masses have spoken and the weather looks to be crummy 
Saturday so we'll postpone until the following Saturday 12/20 starting 
at noon. That also gives you all a chance to weigh in on ride destinations.

Also, at times in the past, we have had impromptu rides on New Years 
Day. Is anyone interested in doing so this New Years? I haven't heard 
from Wendell but he usually has a Boxing day ride starting in Sonoma. 
Wendell, are you doing it this year? It may be frostbite season but 
there are still events happening!

Hello NOBBC,
 
I'm hoping to get some advice on grease guns.  I went to purchase a lever type
grease gun on Ebay and, before doing so, asked the seller if it would work on
a classic British car. He said that the fittings were not compatible with the
business end of the thing.  Are there modern day grease guns available for our
cars or should I just use the original, plunger type gun that came with it?  I
checked Moss Motors and they only carry the original style.

I have a regular, off the shelf, lever grease gun that works fine on my 
MGA...and every other vehicle I have. I'd be surprised (Shocked!) if it 
wouldn't work on your car.

Hi Greg,

There are British thread and button head grease fittings, but as Ron has 
observed with his MGA, standard grease guns should fit a car of your 
AC's vintage.
By the way, here's an interesting little article that describes

As Ron states, I also have an off the shelf lever grease gun and it  
works fine.
The only thing I changed was the fixed metal tube to the nozzle for a  
flex hose,
also available at parts stores, for those hard to get at fittings. I  
also have the
Tecalemit original style.

Yes, excellent point! I should have mentioned the flex hose as I also 
use one and find it indispensible. I occasionally have trouble 
disconecting from some fittings but if I loosen the two part end (of the 
hose) they pop right out. Also it's much easier to just install a grease 
cartridge then to take loose grease and fill a tube as in the "correct" gun.

One trick I use is to mill or grind flats on two sides of the fitting; this makes it possible to fit into tight driveshaft yoke spaces.
To lubricate tower trunnions on front suspensions, I use a high-pressure pump oiler with thin rubber hose slipped onto the thin nozzle but cut off flush to the nozzle end; this permits a good seal to the threaded hole on the trunnion that is usually fitted with a Zerk nipple or plug. (Gear oil is correct for trunnions - not grease.)

We really lucked out weatherwise on the ride yesterday, coulda been like 
today ;-) It was a really nice ride over and through Napa Valley, 
slightly cool but still top down weather. We're lucky we don't live just 
about anywhere else...we would probably be hubcap deep in snow.

Really enjoyed the drive myself, thanks very much for putting it together.
FWIW I researched DIY wheel alignment later and found a good series of 3
videos on YouTube showing how to do it cheaply but very accurately with
common items most people would have, some clever ideas on how to level the
car up and make accurate measurements....so inspiring I might even do it
real soon :-)  Anyway, the first one is at

the bits and I am now in theory recovering. Unfortunately, I will be unable to
drive for quite a while. I know some of you will be willing to step up and
lead the next two rides at least. I will miss the cold weather rides as they
are always an adventure. I will keep up with the list and let you know how I'm

Ron,
My appendix nearly ruptured when I was a kid!  Of course, I had surgery to 
fix it.  In the many years since then I have discovered that it is not the 
normal state of humans to have their appendix fail on them.  However, if a 
person's diet does not have suffiecient fibre, it does create some issues 
in the digestive tract, among them an appendix that is prone to 
failure.  People who eat unrefined food with lots of fruits and vegetables 
do not develop appendicitis.
Anyways, diet does matter.

Sorry to hear about your travails. I had my appendectomy at age 19, so that
would have been between the mid and late Pleistocene eras. It is my considered
opinion that this surgery was the sole reason for my being as obnoxious as I
am at present and having been so now for the last 611 years. Still love to
drive though. Do take good care of yourself. Wouldn't want you turning out as
I did...

removed from my left thigh yesterday. Had a big hunk of flesh removed to

Sorry the hear about your combustible appendix. I hope you are mending
well. I had a hernia operation in 95 and know the recuperation time  
can be
lengthy. Hope yours isn't.

Boxing Day run was fun if a bit chilly. Read FREEZING in a Morgan.  
Trinity
Rd. to Vintage 1870 then to Silverado Trail and up to Angwin to  
Middletown
and back to Calistoga for lunch. Then on to Dick and Judy Scardamaglia's
for coffee or mulled cider. Nice run. Great weather.

I'm sure we can find subs. for events while you mend.

Thanks to all for your kind thoughts. I made it back to Santa
Rosa today and commenced recuperating. Doctors orders are no driving for 
at least 6 weeks, no heavy lifting, etc. So I will miss at least 2 rides 
but it sounds as if they will be covered (thanks Greg, Deano). Also 
thanks to all for all the bran suggestions, heh, been getting that from 
my daughter...big time.

Our next ride would nominally be on the 10th but a look at the calendar 
shows that the 17th is the middle Sat. of the month so what is your 
preference? I'll let you all fight it out but the 17th seems more 
symetrical.

As 2008 comes to an end, NOBBC is still thriving. I forecast continued 
growth and driving fun next year. This disorganized thing of ours has 
proven to have staying power, we must be doing SOMEthing right.

Hi Ron, both Marla and I are very sorry to here about your Christmas
troubles.  That's not a pleasant thing to happen at any time especially at
Christmas.  It looks like you lucked out with the Chief of Surgery and got
the best of care.  Just take things easy and listen to the doctors and
nurses.  You're in good shape so will probably recover quicker than most.
Don't worry about anything, we can always help Greg and any others and lead
tours while you're recuperating.
