I think because there are so many FB groups out there now. I recall the days when there were 200 odd messages and I struggled to read them all. The new house is great, but still so much to do outside and in the workshop. It's a bit like a Mini project, it never seems to end. Right now it's the coldest part of the year here in Australia. We had snow on the weekend, which is quite rare. The Mini and Moke and tucked up for the winter, but I have had my old Land Rover Series 3 out a couple of times. The Mini (1966 Mk1 Austin Super-Deluxe 850cc) has a big oil leak I need to sort. I suspect it's a diff seal. The 1971 Moke is jumping out of second gear. When I rebuilt the engine and gearbox a few years ago the dog teeth on second gear looked a bit dodgy. At the time I could not source a new DAM6240 wide ratio A+ second gear for love nor money. So I had to reuse it. Guess what? It started jumping out of second gear within a few months. The part has now become available new, so I bought one. I really cannot be bothered tearing it all down to change it. It's been like that for about 6,000 miles, so it can wait a few more! My 1965 Mini Traveller project is sleeping in a shipping contained, where it has been stored for the last four years while the new workshop and house was built. In the spring I will drag it to the workshop. On a sort-of Mini related front, a couple of years ago I bought a 1966 BMC Mini Tractor very cheap. These have an A-series 948cc Diesel engine. With a whole 21hp it's no rocketship. But it does make me wonder what would happen if I turbo'd it using MG Metro bits and gave the injector pump a tweak. I guess I would probably end up with Mini 850 levels of power for a short time until it blew up :P Cheers, Brett Nicholson (bnicho) Greendale, Victoria, Australia. A small piece of history. Hi, The list is very, very quiet. When the Mini tractor was designed I suppose it was logical that the Diesel engines were used. Although a petrol A-series version of the same tractor was also available. The tractor was designed by the same person who created the very popular "Grey Fergie" Massey-Ferguson model. It is a compact little thing, but it works well. I've actually used it quite a bit for working around on my property. They do not come up for sale often. This one popped up on eBay two years ago and I sniped it at the last minute for $1525 AU, around 860 GBP. Then I had to make a 1200 mile round trip in one weekend to collect it with my trailer. I'm not sure how it ended up in Australia, as they don't seem to have been sold here. Mine seems to have come from the UK, as there is a UK size numberplate plinth on the front and a tax disc holder on the dash. UK Imports just seem to find me! Even my daily Land Rover was sold new in the UK. Cheers, Brett Nicholson (bnicho) Greendale, Victoria, Australia. I remember Kermit from the old days. Great to see you still have him now, complete with pristine sticker! I purchased two of the stickers, but one left on my 1970 Mini K van which I sold in 2006. The guy I sold it to back then still has it. Ah yes, the old whirs and clicks of the 33k modem. I will never forget that sound, and the thrills as the list e-mails rolled in. The kids of today will never know what that was like. I had to laugh recently, my 12yo son was faced with a wall phone, with a curly cord. He had never seen one before. Picked up the handset, looked at it confused and asked "How do I turn it on?" :D Cheers, Brett Nicholson (bnicho) Greendale, Victoria, Australia.
