You may or may not remember that I had that problem with the gearbox not selecting gears. As I didn't find anything wrong with the remote control, I have decided to finally swap gearboxes, as the corsa that has been the replacement for the time being needs replacing... Now, this box has the old style ujs, the box that I have at hand has pot joints. Now I seem to recall, that you can't just bung the old joints into the new box. As I have drive shafts of either style it wouldn't be any problem swapping the shafts as well. Do I have to? Thanks for any input! It has uj'S fitted at the mo, so the lcb is not an issue. It is really only a consideration what's the least work. So I could take output shafts out, side plates off and refit to the new box. Means I don't have to disturb wheel bearings and swivels and the like as that is fine. In Oz, pot joint boxes have rod changes while the uni style come with remote (or magic wand) shifts.... I'm assuming this is not an issue??? The good news is that everything is interchangeable. If you want to keep your pot joints then the pot joints, side plates and output shafts can be easily transferred as a set to the uni output box (or vice versa). You can actually just bung the unis on the pot joint output shafts but I wouldn't recommend it. I have worked on a car where this was done and the uni joint just kinda "floats around". It works but, because it just slides around on the splines, there would seem to be a reasonable change it would all come apart one day if stressed. The easiest way would just be to use the drive shafts that match the dif output you are using. Both kinds of drive shaft have the same outer ends so will fit into the outer CV. If you do change from pot joints to unis, there are a few little peripheral issues that may be of concern. For example, uni joints sometimes take up more room than is available if you have an LCB fitted...
