Not true, Max. When the points open, the condenser discharges
through the coil in order to perpetuate the spark. Without the
condenser the engine may not even start. Try it some time. <span

How old is the condenser? Even if newish, there are lots
of crappy new Lucas parts out there. I had three bad
ones with similar results, until replaced with a
