<div>The issue was resolved when I removed the double wire terminal from the distributor side of the coil going to the tachometer.</div>

Later model MGB have ballasted ignition with a 1.5 ohm coil and a 1.5 ohm
ballast resistor. The third wire goes to the starter solenoid, so
the starter can bypass the ballast resistor and switch full battery
voltage onto the coil during crank starting.</font></blockquote><br>
