you seem to have two symptoms. </FONT></DIV>

<DIV><FONT size=2>You can check the damping for initial enrichment by
unscrewing the cap, lifting it up, and pressing it back down. You should
feel significant resistance before the cap reaches the piston
cover.</FONT></DIV>

<DIV><FONT size=2>For fuel delivery remove the pipe from the front carb (it may
spurt if the ignition has been on recently), direct it into a container, and
switch on. It should deliver a minimum of one Imperial pint per minute and
in practice at least double that, in a continuous series of pulses with minimal
bubbling.</FONT></DIV>

distributor having failed, and flat spots at higher speeds from an incorrect

<DIV>My ‘72 B hesitates when I accelerate, especially when I
initially press the pedal. I switched to a 20w dashpot oil, but no
change. I’ve used carb cleaner on the pistons and cleaned the
jets.</DIV>

<DIV>I could tolerate the hesitation upon initial hesitation, but the car
misses once on the highway at high speed. If I back-off the acceleration
slightly, the engine will catch.</DIV>

<DIV>I bought the car 10 years ago but never rebuilt the HIF carbs. I
don’t use it regularly and haven’t had the problem until recently.
Besides the pistons not responding properly, I thought maybe it’s fuel flow or
a float sticking?</DIV>
