Subject: [Mgs] MGB automatic transmission conversion

I have a friend who wants to convert his MGB to an automatic transmission.
He has a BW-T35 transmission and torque converter but needs the flex plate,
bell housing, and gear selector box. Does anyone have any of these parts or
know of a source where they can be purchased. It would also be helpful to
know if there or interchangeable parts from other marks that can be used.

I?m pretty sure they used small roundhead Phillips screws. That?s what is used on early MGBs.

They didn?t rivet the VIN tag until it became a Federal requirement in January 1969.

This image shows the type of screw used in 66-67, at least (although I believe this VIN tag is actually a fake, but that?s neither here nor there).

Yeah, you can see the VIN plate Barney shows is identical to the early MGB plate, with the same type of screw. Note that the screw heads are not painted body color, since they are affixed after the body is painted. They seem to have been black, although the originals are generally rusty.

There are rivets on the engine number plate, but that?s a different issue ? those rivets can't be used in sheet metal.

There may be pop rivets on the body number tag, but there is no point in removing these tags, since they are painted with the body.
