I certainly prefer 'aluminium' to 'alooominum' :o)

I must admit I jumped to 'MGB', and although you can get alloy skins for 
them now I've not seen anything to indicate they were originally, unlike 
'bonnets'.

You can weld aluminium, and braze steel to aluminium.  Depends how neat 
a job is needed on the inside after that.
