[Mgs] Mold

Seriously, I was wondering if it was a New Englandism for “damp storage area”…

I am assuming this shop is unheated. I would think a light, breathable cover would be appropriate, just to keep shop debris off the paint. Windows should be cracked open. Maybe some of those moisture-absorbing packets distributed in the interior. If you are not actually working in the shop, you could take the cover off and open the windows (assuming no rodents are in residence).

My MGB spends all winter in an open carport under one of those silver sun-resistant covers, which really doesn’t breathe at all, with the hardtop on and the windows cracked open. But it does get driven from time to time, and of course California winter is nothing like Rhode Island winter.

This year I took it to Bassett’s Jaguar, just down the road from me as I know Bill Bassett and he has helped me out in the past. It needed some minor work which he was going to do. Bill called me later tat day and said he couldn’t touch the car due to extensive mold everywhere. Since then I have embarked on an extensive mold removal effort using white vinegar and several commercially available products. Is there something more I should be doing and is there some way to prevent this from happening in the future other than leaving the car uncovered? I am even having it professionally detailed next week. The detailer promised to thoroughly clean and demold the car.
