I say again - for the benefit of others if nothing else - that one does not 'fill it full' of oil, no more than the quantities listed below, or you will burst the gaiters.  And it should be differential oil, i.e. GL5, not gear oil GL4.

  The fitting was intended for future fill-ups with oil; the plan had been to put one boot on the used rack, stand it up on end, and fill it full of 90W140 gear oil then put the other boot on.  We will take Moss’s word that the new rack is ‘greased for life’!

  Early racks did have an oiler fitting that looked like a grease fitting, the majority didn't.  Replacement racks these days tend to come ready greased not oiled, said to be for 'life'.  Not 'filled' as such, only 1/3rd Imperial pint, 0.19 litres or 0.39 US pint, it's almost impossible to keep the oil in them anyway.  Cable ties may not be concourse but are perfectly acceptable for normal use ... and they don't rust.
