In the mid 80s Ford tossed a Ranger out of a plane for a similar ad.
Back then I knew a guy that was in video production in Hollywood. He told me
that what we saw on TV was actually the third truck they dropped.
That was because the chutes did not open the first two times.
He gave me a video of the first two attempts.  Very funny to watch.
