If you can't make mineral spirits or goo gone work you might try semichrome polish. I used it on my 77 mgb windows that were scratched and yellowed and now they look like new but it took lots of elbow grease. You can buy it at most motorcycle shops. Also great for plastic covers over headlights on some newer cars.
