[Mgs] Generator front bearing.

I just attempted to drive to work in my MGA but had to return home.

Some months ago, I purchased a new armature for the generator in my
MGA. I recently got around to replacing the armature. I drifted the
old armature out of the front plate and put the front plate onto the
new armature. But it seems that something is wrong with the front
bearing because after a mile or two, I could hear a new  noise from
the engine compartment and on returning home, the generator was very
hot.

Any thoughts on what I might have done wrong?
