  Not "a lot" cheaper.  Prius starts at ~$23K.  I have one and it's 
worth every nickel.  If I had to part with the B or the P, the B would 
be gone.

   The mpg on a plug in electric is not infinite; you still have to pay 
for the electric power to recharge it and batteries don't last forever.
