Old AM radios also have antenna trimmers on the
chassis.  They are used to tune the radio to the
antenna.  If you find that is what you have, just
power up the radio, tune a weak station and gently
turn the trimmer back and forth for the loudest
signal.  Of course, if it is a polarity switch DON'T
TOUCH IT. :-P
