But what puzzles me is that I have had new rear springs, and front springs fitted my the local MG specialist and surely he would have done the shock nuts ????? The other thing is that the noise is random over bumps - but ah! that make sense because the shock fastening "eyes" could be in different positions - thus different clunks. Actually they are not clunks - rather like loose wooden floor board clunk (Maybe I am driving a Morgan !) Incidentally the new springs have transformed my belly scraping (over sleeping policeman) ride with teeth gritting pain to a smooth upsurge ride complete with 5mph grin - and she still corners like a go-cart. This set up requires a hole in the bonnet with a cowl induction scoop above the hole. From the closest measurement I can take, I have 2 < distance above the carb flange to where a bonnet without a hole would be. I would like to go back to a bonnet without scoop & hole. Some of you that have a bonnet without a scoop have used a factory 215 intake. I measured one against my Edelbrock and found negligible difference in height. Besides the carb mounting holes dont match my Holley 4160. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to accomplish my goal? Mark T. My V8 came to me with them installed in the trim panels immediately behind the seats. Did require a bit of metal cutting to have flush-mounted there, but as it is a GT that wasn't an issue whereas it might not be ideal in a roadster. Surface mounted would fit there of course, and possibly in the footwells. My roadster came to me with flush-mounted installed in the rear bulkhead i.e protruding into the boot, which is probably as good a place as any after the doors. Probably not a good idea to fit flush mounted in the footwell as the back of the speakers would be in the space behind the splash panel behind the wheels, which isn't the driest part of the car! You would also have to be sure they were far enough forwards to avoid the A-pillar box section where the hinges are, which is probably a worse area to cut into than behind the B-pillar. My V8 has central locking, with flex following the line and curvature of the top hinge on each side, and I've not had a problem with that in many years. In fact as I recall the door casing already had a grommetted hole by those hinges anyway (75). MP3 stick is definitely the way to go, I swapped the 6 CD auto-changer radio in my 2004 ZS for one with a USB socket, the stick containing the equivalent of dozens of music CDs. One negative reason (other people may come up with mores that it might be susceptible to moisture on the back side of your speakers, if the wheel-well panel seals aren't water tight. But, then you want that anyway to keep out the moisture for rust prevention. You can sort of see the speaker in the kick panel in this photo, as well as where I mounted the rear speaker. These are 6" speakers. I really like the sound - a lot better than 4" speakers in the doors, that I had previously. What worked for me was to use a 14" low profile air cleaner base. This drops the bottom of the air cleaner about 3/4" or so below the carb where the air cleaner sits. Next I used a 14" K&N air cleaner element topped off with a K&N air filtered top. The top of the filter is about 1.5" above the top of the carb. Clears the stock hood, and the fact that the top is also an air cleaner element means minimum restriction of air flow. So I will get one with the six buttons (enough, but I know they all have an ability to use a button three times) - a USB port for my flash drive. The latter I suppose needs something to allow one to search/see titles etc - but will consult with radio chap. If it wasn't for my desire to hear Canadian Radio 1 (NO COMMERCIALS) I would just have a flash drive thingy (Ipod??). As for paying for Serious (ha ha) radio - forget it! My speakers are going into the wheel well as I can certainly protect from any rubbish that gets in there past the seals.
