[Mg-t] TD LED Dash Light Conversion

Since the P.O. saw fit to strip out all of the dash lamps and sockets, I
thought I would try to fit LEDs. Has anyone tried this?

My first problem is that the dashboard is so thick that the "side windows" on
the Jaeger gages are totally covered up. Are '52 TDs supposed to have Jaegers?
Anyway, I have a dashboard/gage incompatibility and will have to do some wood
work to expose the "windows".

Last night, I played around with the speedometer in my garage with the lights
off. I shined a 10mm superbright white LED into the side window and was
disappointed with the results. I then tried a bright flashlight and the
results were not much better. Just how bright are the Jaegers in a stock dash?
(This reminds me of the very dim gages on my MGB. What do the British have
against dashlights?) I'm going to try some 10mm superbright GREEN LEDs, maybe
the concentrated green light will get through the green filter better.
