hello folks

can anyone tell me where the lift a dot snaps are to be located for the half
tonneau cover on the 51 TD.. I am at least reasonably certain they do not have
their studs mounted on the wood rail atop the tub as the convertible top is
fastened here with screws....  so i belive the studs are mounted below the
convertible top "skirt fringe flap" and through the steel painted part of the
tub..... scary stuff considering it has taken years to get this car to its
near concourse condition.....  dont want to make a mistake now..

I forwarded this link to a friend who has a very original TD Mk.II with 
14,000 miles on it, original top, half tonneau, seats, carpets and 
here's what he sent back:

Well it looks like there were some free thinkers back
then installing these things.  I have only a total of
4 anchors.  The two that are shown at the 1b positions
and the 2 at 2d.  The 2d variety are about 3" further
toward the back of the car, approximately at the seat
back as it now sits.  There are no positions between
the spare tire anchor frame.  There isn't any evidence
of anything ever being in the other positions noted. 

For what it's worth, my TD doesn't conform either, as I have only one stud centered between the spare tire supports making the total seven for the half tonneau area.  Four seems hardly adequate.

Having seen quite a few TD's, I know at some point for the 1952 model 
year, they went from
two lift-the-dot studs between the spare tire carrier support brackets, 
and a single lift-the-dot stud
in this area. The 1953 TD, and the TF continued with the single stud, 
between the gas tank strap brackets.
No doubt, a cost reduction item.
