Gary,
I concur with Dick Morbeys comments - especially regarding the fitting of
the rubber packing along the top of the tank. The original rubber packing on
my TC (been there since 1946, as this is when the previous owner bought the
car) is = in section and 11/4 wide. The five pieces referred to by Tom
Metcalf are the three mentioned by Dick plus two for the tank to sit on. You
probably wouldnt need to go to MOSS to obtain this rubber packing.
On my J2, the holes which act as locating points for the pegs in the
mounting clamps are in the TOP of the rear chassis tube. The distance
between centres (or centers as you call them!) is 16 =. My J1 chassis has
the same holes, but of course the fuel tank arrangement is different.
I would check the arrangement on my PB, but its tucked up nice and warm in
my daughters garage.
If you are really stuck I can send you out a couple of clamps to copy.
And now for a bit of light relief
