Brian,
The car was supposedly 100% original according to the new owner. However,
these panels had clearly been through the smashed/repaired/resprayed cycle
multiple times. In addition to the metallic green paint, the front of the
stainless center hinge had been torn out so I could not tell if there had
been a serial number stamped. I still do not know if K3's were stamped there
on the hinge like our other MMM cars. I forget how many panels but it was
the complete set.
Now that I think back the fugly green paint actually cleaned up and looked
decent with lots of rubbing involved. The louvers were not nice.
I think the fellows in Wisconsin were in on the deal. As I recall (with
heavy CRS disease involved), the car had been in CN for decades but had
recently been moved to WI so they could do some restoration work. They are
who led Leydon & Simeone to Canada to find the car but in return they got to
work on it.
When I talked to Simeone he indicated he was having the car moved down to WI
and told me about the arrangements. He also told me about some of his other
cars and how he likes them better restored to an "as raced" more so than
pristeen. Or, even better, not restored at all. Nice way to have them
displayed in that museum. I believe he had an Alfa at the fabulous Alfa line
up at Amelia several years ago.
