People join, people leave, an ebb and flow of enthusiasts over the years. Some leave a mark that will not be soon forgotten. Steve Laifman passed away, a stalwart on the Tigers list. We had Fred Thomas on Triumphs, Frank on Spridgets. Uncle Jack was a stalwart on the vintage racing scene with his immaculately prepared Triumphs. As I've mentioned before one of my least favorite tasks is removing someone from the lists as they depart. I want to add them back. I want to keep them alive in our hearts, in our minds, in our web browsers. We, as a community of kindred spirits need to show our respect, admiration and appreciation. Team.Net is currently in a bit of disarray as I work on updating, upgrading and unfortunetly upending various services. In the midst of this cloud of digital dust a new project comes to mind - a memorial page. A place to gather stories, pictures, quips and quotes about those who have touched us all. Stay tuned, there will be requests for stuff to fill these soon to be created web pages. mjb. That Ford big 6 is a fine efficient engine. Problem is that I have very limited space in my driveway and a full size truck is a trial to maneuver for everyday driving. Since Brian King sold me the Golddigger my whole racing program changed allowing, among other things, an opportunity to reduce the physical size of everything to better fit my needs. Exception being the length of the car and fitting it into my shop. There's a long discussion in the Landracing.com technical section about my questions regarding rebuilding the lakester chassis in 3 pieces so I can easily get it into my shop. The Golddigger weighs 1800 lbs wet and I've fairly closely calculated that all the support stuff will come in under 600 lbs. Total weight 3000 lbs to tow. And a trailer I can actually move around empty and easily back down my curvy hillside driveway towable with 200hp and a 110" wheelbase tow rig. .................... Sort References: <51ce.625b2163.3ca8aa52@aol.com> Message-ID: Bob - Much appreciate your thoughts. I've long thought through the open vs. closed trailer question and pretty much settled on an open rig. Easier to maneuver and park at home; cheaper to buy and tow. The way I go to Bonneville avoids overnight or other long term stays in parking lots. That yellow canoe I carry on most trips is something I'd never leave in a parking lot for longer than it takes me to get in and out of a men's room. So I've had practice. Not a lot of valuable stuff will live on the trailer enroute anyway. What is there gets tied down pretty thoroughly so a quick snatch by a thief is hard to pull off. Over the years I've made a detailed study of suitable secure roadside camping situations enroute from San Jose CA to Wendover; so I'm pretty comfortable with that. Actually I prefer sleeping in my truck and buying showers to any hotel room. Aluma offers options like 2 wheel brakes and a "delete" on the ramp. That ramp would be of little use for me because the lakester is pretty close to the ground and I don't want to go through the drill of disconnecting the trailer and jacking it up every time I load and unload. To avoid that I have a set of 8 foot long x 12" wide plywood ramps shaped like the crossection of an airplane wing already built. They will easily support 600 pounds each and will store on each side of the car while it's on the trailer. Having found what looks like the right trailer now I have to figure out how to replace both a big 7 mpg tow truck and a small everyday driver that is getting too "old" (4 banger valve eating Toyota Tacoma). And I will forego some silly creature comforts to avoid having to waste money on a modern overpriced computerized "nanny" car. Good data. Gonna hunt you down at Speedweek and ask how the conversion works. Do you have any expectations for mileage with the new motor with or without the trailer in back?............Ed Weldon ----- Original Message ----- From: To: "23weldon" <23.weldon at comcast.net>; Sent: Saturday, March 31, 2012 8:00 PM Subject: Re: [Land-speed] ???? Seems to be very Quiet.. B Is there anybody left on the land speed list? Am I the only one? B Lonely B here.... Certainly been quiet on the list lately Larry. Here 'down under' we've just clicked back to normal time for the Winter. Been a real wet Summer season but not unpleasant. Son Lincoln who drives our roadster just bolting freshly coated headers back on the car next door. Just finished dynoing the motor couple of weeks back. We're running a new whizz/bang ECU so had to map new ign & fuel tables from scratch. All went well following a couple of wiring glitches. Roll on Speedweek 2012.
