[Land-speed] On Topic, lol... Air Box for Filter Questions

The Sunbeam has a very tight engine compartment especially when the
turbo plumbing is in place. I always use an air filter on either the
turbo inlet or on the mass air flow meter for the normally aspirated
version. I am currently toying with th enoion of putting the filter
into a box hat can get its air from just over the top of the hood, up
front, where a tiny bit of dynamic pressure can be recovered. My main
question is: is there some rule of thumb for how big a boix must be or
how close it needs to be when enclosing the filter? If the filer is
say 6 inches in diameter then what diameter should the enclosure be on
the inside?

Any thoughts on this from anybody?

Yes, I could just grab the air directly, but, I like the notion of the
air filter keeping salt particles out of the engine.
