Been a while since we last emailed. A wet summer season...might be a dream I could wish for, lol. Being in Pahrump, NV, our average annual rainfall is less than 3 inches, mostly way less. It sounds as iff you are readying for an assault on the salt this summer. I hope success comes your way. What is the new ECU ?EFI system? I also have to build my fuel and spark tables along with some other items hat are scalars constant to the motor. I kept looking at the notion of fuel and spark and decided that the way for me, and this is for me only, lol, was to build my tables so that spark was safe and then fiddle with the fuel tables which are load and temperature based as well as RPM. I rescaled the axes on everything to reach a 200% load level (boosted motor), then data logged everything to make sure it was safe. I don't have individual cylinder tuning since I use a sock Ford ECU with a programmable tuning chip but it works ok for me. I hope to make it to the salt this year, but I am having trouble finding pistons. Even when I pay money to have them made, lol. Waiting for a set right now. Also waiting for my crank to make it back from the grinder and balancer shop in SoCal area. Maybe Sept or October for me... Thanks for chatting! Always appreciated. mayf ______________________________ drmayf Worlds Fastest Sunbeam, period. 204.913 mph flying mile 210.779 mph exit speed On 3/31/2012 4:18 PM, Chris R Harris wrote: > Is there anybody left on the land speed list? I have a hard drive which is in trouble. Out of an older computer I have. It uses (used, lol) WIn XP Pro as the OS. It had a serious Trojan which denied access to the basic operation of the OS. Unfortunately during the attempted repair, I used a version of XP that was not the correct version or matching what was in the drive for windows. It is now stuck in never never land. When I boot it up, it comes up in Safe mode, except that i immediately says this needs to be activated and that it can only be activated in the normal start up mode. No matter what is done, it always restarts in Safe mode. Now, I can install another hard drive as the primary drive and this drive as the slave and I can start the computer and examine the hard drive. In fact, this is how I finally got rid of the trojan that was living on it. I think that if I could cripple the OS in the slave drive then I might be able to make it the primary then and retry to repair the existing OS by using the repair function on the XP set up disk. Does tis sound like a reasonable approach or is ther some other manner to get the system back to a stable position where I can reinstall XP? If I can cripple the OS what files do I need to rename or? Any helkp out there? Please reply off list as nobody else needs to be bothered with this. drmayf at mayfco.com many thanks hopefully for outstanding suggestions on how to do this! mayf -- ______________________________ drmayf Worlds Fastest Sunbeam, period. 204.913 mph flying mile 210.779 mph exit speed From speedtimer at beyondbb.com Sun Apr 1 09:53:47 2012 From: speedtimer at beyondbb.com (speedtimer at beyondbb.com) Date: Sun, 1 Apr 2012 09:53:47 -0600 Subject: [Land-speed] ???? I think larger wheels and tires are a reasonable option to look for. 20% safety factor below the tire rating sounds like good advise, especially for traveling over hot highways in the summer sun. I've heard some horror stories of tire failures on trailers with loads below the tire rating. I'm paying a lot of attention to weight of the support stuff. A lot of big support stuff will ride on the trailer. Fuel and water jugs, drain pans, drain oil jug, funnels, tarp and ground cover and canopy material. Equipment containers will be lightweight aluminum or plastic. Plastic tool boxes. I plan on a high quality lightweight 1800 watt generator. (This will hide as far out of sight as I can get it. Toying with the idea of hiding it in a hollowed out grungy ice chest) My trailer ramps still need to go on a diet. I need to get creative with chairs and a work table. Ditto spare wheels and tires, jacks and jack stands. I'm leaning toward this stuff staying on the tow vehicle along with the drivers suit, etc. ............Ed Weldon ----- Original Message ----- From: Ed Van Scoy To: 23weldon Sent: Sunday, April 01, 2012 9:04 PM Subject: Re: [Land-speed] ???? The lakester is 2000 lbs, add the weight of any other items you are going to haul + the weight of the trailer, and make sure the tires will carry that load. The usual margin is add an addition 20% to the load capacity of the tires just to stay on the safe side. Just an unfiltered thought....... I am currently toying with th enoion of putting the filter into a box hat can get its air from just over the top of the hood, up front, where a tiny bit of dynamic pressure can be recovered. My main question is: is there some rule of thumb for how big a boix must be or how close it needs to be when enclosing the filter? If the filer is say 6 inches in diameter then what diameter should the enclosure be on the inside? Any thoughts on this from anybody? Yes, I could just grab the air directly, but, I like the notion of the air filter keeping salt particles out of the engine. mayf -- ______________________________ drmayf Worlds Fastest Sunbeam, period. 204.913 mph flying mile 210.779 mph exit speed From saltrat at pahrump.com Sun Apr 8 11:29:10 2012 From: saltrat at pahrump.com (Skip Higginbotham) Date: Sun, 8 Apr 2012 10:29:10 -0700 Subject: [Land-speed] On Topic, lol... Message-ID: <20120408224816.1D6F72E076@bradakis.com> and sometimes it doesn't. It is a beautiful Easter here in Salt Lake City, wonderful spring weather. I had big plans to get lots done in the yard and in the garage this weekend. But no, I'm sitting here at the keyboard, have been inside all weekend with a cold. So my weekend plans didn't work out. But one plan has worked out, and for over 20 years. Yep, in April of 1991 Team.Net became a registered domain, and the lists and FTP service and web pages moved from various machines at the U of U where I worked at the time to a dedicated machine. One aspect of that is that keeping it running takes money out of my pocket. Not that much, though I keep thinking on checking just what size bite of my power bill the Team.Net hardware does take. Speaking of hardware, you are no doubt aware that Team.Net is running on a nice new, well, new to me, server that was purchased with user contributions last spring. And no doubt you've noticed the transition has had some issues, like with the archives and the forums. I am working on smoothing out the remaining wrinkles to keep it all flowing smoothly. What you can do to keep it running smoothly is make a contribution to the cause. Information regarding how to do so can be found at http://www.team.net/donate.html Some of you have donated recently, especially during the 'Find Mark a job' thread on the Healey list. In case you are wondering I no longer am a parts delivery guy but wrenching on cars again at Bailey's Service here in Utah. Spending $500 - $600 or so a month on gas and oil is something I won't miss about the old job! If you feel like Team.Net offers you something worth supporting, I would appreciate a contribution. If you'd rather not, don't worry about it. Thanks, mjb. It depends on the Debye length the photons travel between collisions when they are immersed in a plasma with specific physical characteristics. And the plasma characteristics vary depending on which internal region of the sun you are considering.
