[Land-speed] OT: Old Flathead Engines

When you look at my Plymouth flathead it has the classic ten head bolts
sealing the cylinders and another 8 bolts above the valve area. When I
converted to OHV I just used the ten bolts around the cylinders and put plugs
in the other eight.

Another possible reason - bolts of inferior construction, compared to today's
alloys.  Back then they might stretch under load more than current head
fasteners.
