Benn;

I bought my pitot static tube from Dweyer Instruments. It is a small
diameter tube and extends about 5" higher than the body; I think one
important point is that it is mounted at the nose so the influence of the
airstream flowing over the bodywork is minimized.

Huh...how far does it have to protrude to avoid the effects of nearby
bodywork?  I've often thought that an airspeed indicator may be better at
showing how well a vehicle is doing, to account for windspeed, than a
groundspeed indicator.
