Mike's comment on sensing pressure is spot on. Lube is also very 
important. Many years ago, I got a great tip about a wonderful lube to 
use on drill bits, especially small ones. Try using Elmer's glue...yes 
the white stuff you used as a kid. The stuff has lard oil in it, sticks 
to the bit and will blow your mind how well it works. I have been able 
to drill hardened shafts to install a magnet for data-ack systems.
