That's what I found when I swapped my 3 HD6s for 3 Webers. Once I floored it, the thing went like a rocket but otherwise it was nothing special. Went back to the 3 HD6s. (Much better than the original HS4s).

I purchased my BJ7 from its original owner who had bought it new in 1963. In 1965 he decided to take it SCCA racing and when I got the car it had triple HD8s and a BJ8 cam. He told me he had bought the carb set-up from "Healey
of Canada". I did some research on the carb and manifolds and found the numbers matched to ones allowed for SCCA racing and were in some Healey literature parts lists. I found the carbs were great at wide-open throttle (like you'd use on track) but lacking
in acceleration at lower speeds. If I were going to fit triple SUs on a road car, I'd probably stick with HD6s rather than HD8s.

Harold,

it depends how accurate you want to be. According to Peter Browning's
"The Works Big Healeys", talking about the rally cars he says:

" The 1960 cars ran with triple 2-in (51mm) SU carburetters on
individual inlet manifolds...[producing].. 180bhp at 5200 rpm.

The use of triple 45 DCOE Weber carburetters in 1962 improved power
output to around 200bhp at 5750rpm with a 10:1 compression ratio and a
high-lift cam"

I would get hold of a copy of Browning's book and go to the back and
think about how far you want to go!!

Hope that this helps.
