Backfire in a carburetor occurs when the air-fuel mixture ignites at the wrong time, often causing flames to shoot out of the carburetor. This can happen due to issues like a rich fuel mixture, incorrect timing, or vacuum leaks. Spitting is ejecting oil thru the carb.
