I had one fail several years ago and, fortunately, had a Lucas Sport Coil in the trunk. I’ve heard others have had trouble with the Pertronix coil, whereas I’ve never had an issue with the Lucas coil, despite all the Prince of Darkness jokes. Whichever you use, it should be without ballast resistor and have 3 ohms resistance—especially with a Pertronix ignition.
