This is a spitball, but is is possible the threads on either/both
the spinner and/or hub have deformed/stretched enough to cause the
problem? I know later cars, like my BJ8, have large, coarse threads
whereas earlier cars--I don't recall the changeover date--like my
BN2 had much finer threads. I always wondered why the change was
made, could it be because the finer threads were 'weaker?'<br>

I bought a set and had to have the cone surfaces re machined.
Clean the cone surfaces and apply engineering blue.
Knock the wheels on and drive gently around the block.
Come home and look at the blue.
Jags etc had a different taper angle.
I suspect that is your issue.
It something like “should be 8 degrees, but it’s 9.5”
But I don’t remember.
The angle required is in your spinner on the outside, and on your hub on the inside.
I suspect the angles on your wheel don’t match

Gents,
I have 2 sets of wheels for my BJ7. A set of wires and a set of minilite replicas.
Recently, I am having trouble getting the front wheels tight enough. It seems the thread on the hub is bottoming out in the spinner before it clamps the wheel properly unless I belt the hell out of it to get it tight enough.
The hubs and spinners have been on the car for over a decade. Car is a daily driver.
The obvious fix is to file/machine the end of the hub or replace the spinners.
Anyone else have this issue before.
Cheers
