This brings to mind a 54 BN1 Fan Belt Story.

Mid to late 60's or so, I was traveling home, in my 54, 100-4
after going to the Sunday afternoon NASCAR Sportsman/Modified
races at Victoria Speedway, off Rt 20 in NY. On the way home I
blew a fan belt while going through a very small village, a one
gas station town. Since the gas station was my only hope to get
running again I walked there, went inside and discussed the
situation with the attendant/owner. As expected, he did not have
a Healey belt in stock but he let me rummage through a bunch of
old belts he had stored in a back room.

It took me about 15 or 20 minutes or so to find a belt that looked
as if it might fit, close to the proper width and length. I
believe it was a belt for some tractor trailer. He wanted $10.00
for it, I only had $5.00, he took the $5 and I was off to attempt
an installation. I cleaned the belt, as best as I could and
installed It, the fit was not perfect but basically okay It did
however protrude slightly higher above the pulley than the one
that had blown. I left that belt on the car for a couple more
years with no further problems.
The fanbelt for a 100 should be 3/4" wide and 1/2" deep in a V
shape. 3/4" wide (19mm) is not a currently standard metric size.
I've just bought a replacement belt from one of the usual UK
suppliers. It's 22mm wide and doesn't sit in the pulleys properly.
I then went to another supplier who claims to be selling the
correct width belt. It turned out to be exactly the same 22mm
size. I've researched this, and these belts are standard modern
metric size "C". The belt that came off my 100 ( it had been there
for at least 20 years and 12000 miles) was a B1130 B43 belt, 17mm
wide. It sat slightly low in the pulley grooves, but was much more
flexible than the 22mm belts and was altogether a better fit.

want to convert to narrow belts and pulleys.
