Use non-hardening Hylomar for gasket to block. I did that with both gasket types and did not have any leaks. I currently have a silicon gasket installed. I have removed the valve cover several times in the last ten years and reinstalled it without removing it from the valve cover. I had to work the perimeter with metal working tools to flatten it.
